A Little More About Tier 4

The government has introduced standards to reduce air pollution from diesel engines, and they have done so in stages, or “Tiers”.  The tiers depend on engine horsepower and year of engine production.  The main goal is to reduce exhaust emissions of black smoke and nitrogen oxides that contribute to smog.  Tier four is the final tier to be met for this standardization system.
There has been concern from consumers that the tier four engines will not perform as well as previous models, but the truth is quite the opposite.  Kubota has ensured that their tier four engines will perform and, in some cases outperform previous tier models.
Kubota is implementing different solutions for different engine sizes, applications, and emission tiers.  For example, small engines under 25 horsepower can comply with Tier 4 through Kubota’s design and efficient control of the combustion process, without the need of exhaust filters, catalysts or exhaust additives.
Emissions Information Summary
• The EPA has mandated that diesel engines become cleaner, so they have introduced standards for all engine manufacturers.
• Kubota is fully compliant and has chosen appropriate technologies to meet the standards.
• For most engines, a diesel particulate filter is used to reduce soot emissions.
• The DPF replaces the standard muffler and is located in about the same place.
• The accumulated soot must be removed (burned) approximately every 15 to 20 hours, in a process called “Regeneration”. The actual time depends on operating conditions.
• Kubota recommends Automatic Regeneration if the equipment is used outdoors and in a non combustible environment.
• The engine RPM must be raised to enable regeneration.
• If the operator does not enable regeneration in due time, a dealer service call may be necessary.
• When regeneration is underway, a small amount of white smoke may be observed emitting from the exhaust pipe.
• During regeneration, the exhaust temperature will rise.  Therefore, regeneration should only take place when the machine is in a non combustible area.

Extending Peace of Mind With Kubota’s Orange Protection Program

GPL:  What is the Orange Protection Program (Kubota Extended Warranty)?
Cockroft:  The Kubota Orange Protection Program was developed by Kubota Tractor Corporation to allow our customers to purchase additional time (and hours) on their equipment warranties.  This warranty has the same terms and conditions as the Original “Factory” Warranty with the exception of the additional time/hour intervals.
GPL:  Can’t a customer do the same thing by
purchasing good insurance?
Cockroft:  No.  Insurance covers things like accidental damage and theft.  It does not cover manufacture defects or defects in material or workmanship.  As an example, if a seal goes out on a water pump, this is not an insurance issue.  However, it may be covered under the equipment warranty terms depending on the circumstances.
GPL:  Kubota is a very dependable product.  Why would a customer spend additional money to buy Kubota Extended Warranty?
Cockroft:  Great question.  As mentioned, Kubota makes a very reliable product.  However, Kubota products are man made machines.  Every machine, no matter who makes it, has the potential to have a failure. Kubota Orange Protection allows our customers to purchase “peace of mind” when purchasing their equipment.  It also allows them to manage operating cost.  When combined with quality insurance such as KTAC, a customer can cover his or her piece of equipment front to back for most failures or damage.  Knowing that their out of pocket expense is better controlled is what makes many people choose the Kubota Orange Protection Program for their equipment.
GPL:  Speaking of out-of-pocket expense, is there a deductible on extended warranty repairs?
Cockroft:  No, there is no deductible.  Also, there are no pre-approvals or other “hoops” to jump through.  Just take it into your local Authorized Kubota Dealer.  If the repair would be covered under normal warranty, then it will be covered under the extended warranty.  Of course, assuming the machine is still under the overall time and hour limits.
GPL:  When can a customer purchase Kubota’s Extended Warranty, and is it transferable to other customers?
Cockroft:  A customer can purchase Kubota’s Orange Protection Plans for their equipment any time during the base warranty period.  However, it is most advantageous to purchase it at the time of the machine purchase because the cost can be financed with the machine.  The Kubota Extended Warranty will remain valid on that machine, even if the machine is resold.
GPL:  How much Kubota Extended Warranty can be purchased on a machine?
Cockroft:  The hour limits vary, but in most cases, a customer can extend the machine warranty by either 1 or 2 years.  They can also choose to purchase it on only some of the equipment they purchase.  For example, a customer who purchases a Kubota L3800 Tractor (2 year “factory” warranty) and Kubota Front End Loader (1 year “factory” warranty) can choose to extend the front end loader warranty for 1 year.

New Kubota Excavator

        New for 2013 is Kubota’s KX040-4 featuring Kubota’s “Eco-Plus” mode.
Kubota’s new four-ton KX040-4 packs superior performance, versatility and comfort into one compact machine.  The new excavator leads the pack this year and replaces the KX121-3, Kubota’s single most popular model. The KX040-4 prioritizes the economy and supports the environment with its “Eco-Plus” system, giving operators the option of “eco mode” for up to 20 percent less fuel consumption than prior models. For applications that require full power, operators can switch to standard mode and still experience improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
Kubota’s auto idling system also conserves fuel. When the control levers are in the neutral position for more than four seconds, the engine RPM automatically idles. Move any control lever and the engine RPM immediately returns to the preset level. This innovative feature reduces noise and exhaust emissions while reducing operating costs.
Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota construction equipment product manager had this to say about Kubota construction equipment.
“Upgrade, innovate and expand are three words that describe Kubota’s approach to the construction market this year. We have upgraded several of our existing lines to include Tier IV engines, improved serviceability, and updated/repositioned control panels for greater ease of use. From excavators to newly introduced compact track loaders, we have introduced a lot of exciting equipment this year that is sure to motivate construction contractors nationwide.”

Kubota Technology (KX121-3 & the 6-In-1 Blade)

Kubota’s new hydraulic six in one blade can be angled right and left, and now, tilted as well.  This new blade enables six different positions:  neutral, float-up, left-end-up, right-end-up, left-end forward and right-end forward.  This feature makes leveling and backfilling work incredibly easy.  Now operators can be even more productive on inclines and uneven terrain.
The hydraulic six in one blade has a full ten degrees of tilt, making it ideal for landscaping on slopes and swells.  Contractors will find this diverse blade perfect for shaping foundations and finish work.  When compared to the Komatsu PC40MR-2 it out-performs in traction force, blade performance and operating weight.
One might think that such a complex blade would be difficult to operate but it isn’t.  The blade is operated with an easy single lever and a push of a button.  The blade is angled by moving the lever right or left.  To tilt the blade simply press the “T” button on top of the lever.
The six in one blade comes standard on the KX121-3 which will only be available for a limited time.  This model which uses a tier three engine is being replaced by the KX040-4.  So, get more for less while inventory lasts at Great Plains Kubota.

Kubota Leasing Q & A

From Great Plains Living Winter 2012

GPL:  What is Kubota Leasing?
RC:  Kubota Leasing is a group that was created to help provide more options to Kubota’s commercial  and municipal customers.  Kubota Leasing provides the customer with several leasing options across the entire spectrum of Kubota Product.
GPL:  How is a lease different from “normal” financing or paying cash?
RC:  The customer has several options to choose from.
The Fair Market Value, (FMV) lease gives the customer the lowest payment with two end of lease options.  They can buy if for the true Fair Market Value, (determined at the end of the lease) or return the equipment to Kubota Leasing.
The Fixed Price Purchase Option, (FPPO) lease has a slightly higher payment, however the exact purchase price is stated at the start of the lease a and the customer knows exactly what their purchase option will be.   At the end of the lease the customer can either buy the equipment for the FPPO or return it to Kubota Leasing.
These two leases provide off balance sheet financing because the customer has the option to return they equipment if they don’t want to purchase it.
The third lease is a Finance Lease, which the customer makes payments throughout the term and when the last payment is made the customer takes ownership of the equipment.
•  There are many types of leases available through Kubota Leasing including several customer plans.
•  However, the main difference when using a lease is that the leasing company is the true owner of the equipment and the end user pays the lease for the use of the equipment for a set amount of time (usually 24 or 36 months) at a set rate per month.
•  At the end of the lease the customer may have several options, (based on the type of lease agreement) which may include purchasing the equipment  from the lease company, extending the lease, upgrading to newer and/or larger equipment, or simply returning the equipment to the lease company.
GPL:  So why would a commercial operator lease instead of buy?
RC:  There are several reasons why a lease may be a better option for a commercial user.  Some of these reasons are:
•  Lowest monthly cost:  Most lease payments will be less than a payment for a “standard” purchase.
•  Tax Benefits:  In some cases, the customer can deduct the monthly lease payment as an operating expense.  Please check with your own tax advisor.
•  100% Cost Coverage:  A dealer and customer can include “other” fees into the lease agreement including things like training, maintenance, and Kubota Extended Warranty.
•  Obsolescence Protection:  At the end of the lease, the customer has the flexibility to upgrade, downgrade, or simply get a newer model as they see fit.
•  Easier Budgeting:  With 100% cost coverage, a customer can plan much of the operating cost in advance and include those expenses into the lease amount.  This creates better month to month expense planning and allows for maintenance to be paid over time, not as one lump sum.
•  Preserves Credit Lines:  Leasing equipment does not tie up the customer’s line of credit, so the customer will have more credit available if and when they need it.
•  Flexible Payment Options:  Payments can be structured to meet the customer’s needs based on their cash flow needs.
GPL:  If a commercial customer is interested in Kubota Leasing, how can they get more information on it?
RC:  Leasing is fast and easy – we take care of everything call us at 855-222-3955 or visit the Kubota Leasing website at: www.kubotaleasing.com, or see Great Plains Kubota at any location, or call 855-4KUBOTA

Kubota R-Series Wheel Loader Overview

Equipped with sate of the art features, the versatile R-Series wheel loaders from Kubota offer outstanding visibility, power, and productivity.
Kubota Diesel Engine
The R-Series loaders utilize Kubota’s own 41.6 and 46 T-TVCS diesel engines.  The clean running Kubota engines offer power and dependability, with superior horsepower and performance.  The low noise and vibration levels reduce operator fatigue, allowing long hours of continuous use.  The four wheel drive limited slip differential and rear frame oscillation provide excellent traction and stability.  This allows you to out muscle challenging terrain, such as mud, sand, and snow.  When loose or soft terrain causes a front wheel to lose its grip, the Limited Slip Differential transfers that wheel’s power to the opposite wheel to restore traction.  Another nice feature is the electronic shuttle shift lever. Increase production with on the fly shifting.  Mounted on the steering column, this timesaving, labor reducing feature lets you shift from forward to reverse to forward without ever clutching or breaking.
Load Sensing Transmission (LST)
Load Sensing Transmission automatically adjusts speed and torque in response to load conditions.  To operate more efficiently, this innovative feature enables the R-Series loaders to automatically shift from high speed/low torque to low speed/high torque as load conditions vary.  For optimal operation in tight spaces, the travel speed limiter reduces maximum travel speed with just a touch of a button, while maintaining full performance of the auxiliary hydraulics.
Auxiliary Hydraulics
As a standard feature in both models operators will save time and money whenever a hydraulically operated attachment is needed.  Unlike most competitors the Kubota R-Series wheel loaders offer greater versatility with hydraulics plumbed to both front and rear, enabling usage of a backhoe when a job demands it.
Features
For easy dumping into trucks with higher beds the R-Series has the highest dumping clearance in it’s class.  The fully adjustable suspension seat adjusts to provide a high level of
comfort
to a wide range of
drivers.  The hanging style
foot pedals increase foot space.  Combine these together to make up the best loader in its class.

Kubota SVL Overview

Kubota’s SVL75 and SVL90 compact track loaders were designed to handle a wide range of tasks while keeping operator comfort in mind.
The exceptionally comfortable cab features a wide entrance for easy mounting and dismounting along with plenty of leg room to reduce operator fatigue.  Models equipped with a pressurized cab offer protection from the elements and an excellent air conditioning system. The easy open, sliding front window allows the operator to get in or out of the loader regardless of attachment position by sliding up and into the cab.
The  wide variety of attachments available for use on the SVL series make it a versatile, multi-tasking machine. Their best in class four cylinder, turbo charged engines provide great fuel economy and unmatched performance.  Also, the vertical lift design and low center of gravity deliver exceptional stability while loading materials  and leveling surfaces.
SVL uses include:  brush hogging, post hole and ditch digging, sweeping, breaking and grappling rock, tree shearing, material handling and even seeding.  Mostly used in construction, the SVL is ideal for farming and agricultural functions.  Garrett Clark, Store Manager at Great Plains,  comments on the SVL90 usage at his family’s farm.
“We use it for as many jobs as we can, but mostly for moving dirt and hay and lots of tree removal.  It is amazing how fast you can get a job done.  I can do three months worth of work in three days.  It really saves us time.”
Serviceability on hard worked machines should always be a consideration when comparing models.  The SVL makes maintenance and inspections faster and safer with a tilt up cab capable of reaching a 72 degree angle.  Here hydraulic pumps, valves, lines and the hydraulic tank can be reached.  Daily or routine checks  can be performed by opening the bonnet.  The slide and tilt radiator also enhance easy maintenance.
A key factor to the durability of this series is its outstanding crawler performance.  Using the technology of their mini excavators Kubota has proven their track systems give long-life and high performance.  The undercarriage forms an integral part of the main frame for maximum durability.  These factors combined show the impressive strength of the Kubota SVL series.
The Kubota SVL series provides high levels of productivity giving operators hours of comfort and the ability to handle dynamic applications with a variety of attachments.  The serviceability and longevity of these machines make them desirable in the construction market as well as the agricultural markets.

The New Kubota Kommander

Kubota has a new zero turn lawn mower just in time for spring.  The new Kubota Kommander is an easy way to quickly and efficiently mow your lawn this year.  These compact zero turn lawn mowers are built with ergonomics in mind to keep you comfortable through the longest mowing jobs.  They’re easy to operate with a wide range of features designed for fast, efficient mowing.
You can mow your lawn like a pro, with the smooth, effortless performance of the Kubota Kommander.  The Kommander is comfortable and stylish and is easily operated.  Customers have two models to choose from, the S-model and the E-model.  The ultimate residential zero turn mower comes in the following models with either a 48 or 54 inch deck: the ZG124E, ZG127E, ZG123S, and the ZG127S.
Cutting your grass at the perfect height has never been easier.  The K-Lift mechanical one-push deck lift pedal raises the deck and with a simple twist of a dial, you can adjust your cutting height in precise 1/4” increments.  After your adjustments, simply push and release the pedal again to lower the deck.
The ergonomic design features a seat that slides a full six inches forward and back, letting you find just the right position for maximum personal comfort.  Dual operation levers provide the smooth, precise control you’ll need for delicate trimming and work around trees and flower beds.  There are four storage boxes for your tools, lunch, and anything else too big or heavy for your pockets, and of course for safety the Kommander comes standard with full height ROPS.
The stylish look of the Kommander offers comfort and convenience making it a highly efficient mower to operate.  The high back seat is soft and roomy and will keep you comfortable even on those extra long mowing jobs.  The wide foot pan gives the operator plenty of legroom up front.  It also makes entry and exit a snap.  What riding mower would be complete without cup holders?  The Kommander has multiple integrated cup holders.  Extend your mowing in low light conditions with the stunning and somewhat extraordinary LED headlights which come standard on the S-models and optional on the E-models.  The 22 inch Ultrascaper Z rear tires offer a softer ride and wide tread tires to provide better traction and weight distribution to help protect your lawn.
When performance counts, the Kubota Kommander delivers.  Their powerful engines, rugged transmissions and strong frames let you take on the toughest jobs with confidence and ease.  For added peace of mind they are covered under Kubota’s four year 300-hour warranty.
The Kommander is powered by hardworking engines that are available in either Kohler or Briggs and Stratton engines.  All the power from the engine is delivered to the wheels and mower deck through a rugged, Hydro Gear commercial ZT3100 transmission.
A mower is only as good as its mowing deck.  The Kommander uses a five-inch deep welded deck made of 10-gauge steel which provides outstanding, professional level cutting performance.
There is a lot to like about the new Kubota Kommander.  From their comfortable ergonomic design to their style and convenience, these attractive, hardworking mowers are designed to make mowing as easy as possible.

The "Plus" Side of Storm Shelters

You can never hold back spring or the destruction that its severe storms can sometimes do.  You can, however, have the priceless value the safety of a storm shelter can provide.  Storm Shelters Plus offers more to their customers when it comes to their product.  By providing convenient purchasing offers at an affordable price, Storm Shelters Plus has quickly grown throughout Oklahoma.
Gerald Morgan has managed customer service since 1989.  As an entrepreneur, Morgan owns Storm Shelters plus and other businesses like the Old General Store on Hwy 9 near Lake Thunderbird.  These businesses serve as individual dealerships for his company.  Like most family businesses, he and his partners operate Storm Shelters Plus with honesty and integrity.  Morgan said this about his company, “Customer satisfaction is very important to us.  I have been providing services to consumers for many years, and you don’t go far without taking care of your customers.  In providing storm shelters, which I believe offer a very affordable piece of mind, our work is guaranteed.  As a business owner,  it is rewarding to offer such a product,” said Morgan.
These shelters are engineered and designed to last for a long time, and come with an excellent manufacturer’s warranty.  They have a warranty against leakage in the concrete structure for a period of 10 years from the date of installation. The product itself is a precast concrete shelter and is built to FEMA standards.
Their business is shelters, but it goes beyond that.  What makes Storm Shelters Plus different from other shelter companies is they offer in-house financing.  There are no credit checks, so everyone qualifies.  All that is required is a small down payment.  With shelters starting at $2,499 and flexible payment options, they make it easy for anyone needing a shelter.  They have seven different locations that serve as dealerships for their storm shelters:  Arcadia, Elgin, Norman, Oklahoma City, Midwest City, and Choctaw.
As one could imagine installing heavy concrete storm shelters into the ground requires the use of equipment.  Up until a few months ago the company was renting equipment needed to perform installs.  The need for multiple units was a must due to the growing amount of daily installations.  Morgan commented on purchasing two Kubota KX121-3 excavators from Great Plains Kubota.
“We are installing four shelters a day and have been for a while.  Basically we were losing money by renting our equipment and were to the point of needing to purchase our own excavator in order to save time and money.  After researching several manufacturers we narrowed it down to Kubota and were fortunate to work with your Shawnee dealership.  Great Plains salesman Bobby Norman jumped through hoops to get the units we wanted in a timely manner.  His was very professional and easy to work with.  Since using the Kubota excavators, we have doubled our production and cut our costs.  We are now effectively catching up on our installations.  Last year we were running about three months behind.  Now we’re averaging only a week or so behind.  We couldn’t be happier with our choice,” said Morgan.
Storm Shelter Plus utilizes their professional installers as their on the job representatives.  Their experienced workers typically install four shelters a day giving them constant exposure to customer needs and the obstacles of installation.  Experienced shelter operations employees such as Shannon Pierre know what it takes to properly get a shelter in the ground in a time efficient manner.  Pierre commented on his use of the Kubota KX121-3 for installation.
“The cab on the excavator is quiet and comfortable which makes it easy to operate for long periods at a time.  It is small but powerful which makes it a very effective machine.  The tilt boom and tight tale swing allow me to maneuver around things with ease.  So far  I have really enjoyed working with these machines,” Pierre stated.
Storm Shelter Plus puts the“Plus” in it’s name by offering more to it’s customers.  By providing an affordable product with flexible payment options Morgan’s company makes it possible for everyone to stay safe during Oklahoma’s storms.

The Science of Kubota Package Deals

Tractor packages are an increasingly popular request at our dealership, and why not?  If a customer purchases three of more implements with a tractor there is a significant amount
of savings offered.
What are Kubota tractor packages?  The question seems simple enough yet we get many different questions on these offers.  Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding our Kubota package deals:
What is a Kubota package deal?  Our tractor packages are any Kubota tractor that is generally paired with multiple implements.  We keep several packages put together ranging from 30 - 50 HP which include a trailer, box blade and rotary cutter.  To clarify, a trailer is considered an implement in our packages; however, the Kubota’s front end loader is not.  The combinations of packages are virtually endless with our product lines.
What is the difference?  The difference is in quality and in savings.  At Great Plains we offer high-end, durable implements that are made to last such as:  Land Pride, Woods, Cammond, & Blue Diamond to name a few.  It doesn’t do us or the customers any good to offer cheap implements in order to lower our package deal prices.  The difference in savings boils down to save now and spend less later.  For example, if a customer knows they will be needing a bale spear and perhaps pallet forks next summer, but they only need a box blade now, it would be wise to purchase them all together, if possible, to receive their discount.
Is a Kubota package deal right for me?  One of the great benefits of purchasing a Kubota tractor in package form is that everything can be financed together.  So if you are looking for a finance purchase, and you are needing new or replacement implements, it is the perfect way to save.  Our packages are ideal for first time tractor owners who may have recently purchased acreage.  They are also perfect for those with small farms, hunting leases, recreational property or country-home settings.  For customers who don’t need financing, discounts will still apply when three or more implements are purchased with a tractor.
Can I mix and match any tractor and implement?  Any tractor when paired with three or more implement qualifies for customer savings.
How can I learn more?  We offer package deals at all our Great Plains Kubota locations so give us a call at 855-4KUBOTA or go online www.greatplainskubota.com.  Note that pricing may vary, and equipment is subject to availability.
